There are several things you do on a daily basis in attempts to increase your productivity and make the most of the available time. However by doing those things, you are actually achieving the absolute opposite. For the time being you might feel that you are actually achieving more productivity, but in the longer run, you just depreciate yourself. Here are two things that you can focus on and avoid doing so that you achieve maximum productivity.
You might have heard of the term “Multitasking”. Individuals in organizations are expected to multitask on a regular basis; similarly there are several other real life examples of multitasking. If you have been involved in any sort of multitasking or are still relying on it to increase your productivity, stop right there. Human brain can only focus on one task at a time, when you focus on multiple tasks, you will notice that not only is each task being given divided attention, but either of the tasks is suffering because of the other. This also increases the time during which one task could have been potentially finished. Studies and research support the fact that multitasking reduces your effectiveness and performance.
As commonly said, “burn the midnight oil”, it is popularly believed that working late hours and waking up at night to either finish your work or even for study purposes signifies that you are working hard and are very productive. You might be working hard, but are you really productive? Reducing sleeping hours and increasing working hours causes your brain to reach a burnout level. You will feel so stressed that you would feel frustrated and wouldn’t want to work for a second even; this is referred to as the “burn out’ phase and it drastically decreases productivity. To remain energized you must ensure that you maintain proper sleeping habits and establish adequate working hours. Sleep must be optimized as this is the best way to relax and refresh your mind, no other way can serve the purpose.
As they say, if you want to be productive you must try to work smart not just hard. Time management and stress management is the real key to success when it comes to increasing productivity; you must try to keep yourself away from such activities which make you tired and drain all of your energy.
